Next came a Bird

I am wondering, if I can start calling myself a sewer yet.
I have added sewing as a topic in my labels, it has 2 entries now .. got to count for something and then all your wonderfully kind comments, really made this new "sewer" smile, thanks so much.

I am a Knitter not a Sewer ! including 30 Days of Beauty : 14

My poor sewing machine, which has been with me for many years, mostly lies dusty and unused in the cupboard under the stairs ( very Harry Potter ish ! )
But recently, instead of lusting after all the wonderful bits and pieces other bloggers seem to always be up to but sitting on my hands ( and piles of stashed craft equipment ) and not giving them ago, I have decided to just get on and do them.
Finding the time has been easy, one rule ... switch off the TV for the whole evening or at least a couple of hours.
So out came the sewing machine, quick dust down and we began to make friends.

Inspiration came from here
http://www.rookiemoms.com/make-some-easy-kids-pants/
and as with most things from Gill, who always gets things done !

I had no t-shirts to use, so ordered some cheap material from ebay ( gotta love it ) sent N to the pub, children to bed and set to.

The above photo is for my 30 days of Beauty project, proving to myself I am no longer just a Knitter but a Sewer too.

The finished trousers in all their glory and 101+ mistakes, I can tell you them all, not least of all is the snugness of the waist but hey I learnt to love my sewing machine, enjoyed my evening and

the delightful giggles and jumps of excitement from O this morning, so makes it worth it.

I am stupidly over-the-top proud of seeing my boy in Mama-Made trousers and funky animal trousers at that !

Nesting

Completely inspired by these lovely blogs

http://childhoodmagic.blogspot.com/
http://themagiconions.blogspot.com/2010/02/make-pretty-spring-nest.html

and having a couple of days to ourselves ( K is staying over at a friends ) O and I decided to do some wet felting.

We both got soaked due to O's splashing but what fun and the result was 3 little eggs that needed a nest.

So while O continued with his felting/splashing/giggling I set to with the needles.

We sang " 3 little dickie birds " a dozen or more times and read The Best Nest and Hatch Egg Hatch.

Then hung our Best Nest on the tree.

Where our beautiful bird ( thanks H ) flew down to admire it.
A truly wonderful day.

30 Days of Beauty : 12

Spring ... the returning of the green, fresh shoots, warmer weather ( we're still waiting for that ) longer days and lambs in the field.
We spotted our first of the season, on the journey home from visiting friends.

These Mamas were very interested in coming to say "Hello" to us, until they saw I was carrying a camera and not food.

Gorgeous babes, running, jumping, climbing, greeting Spring with Joy.

30 Days of Beauty : 9

An amazing sight today.
Hundreds of birds gathering in the field.

The sounds of their wings flapping was incredible, making their own drumbeats.

Dancing together in twists, turns and spirals.

So many of them, the sky was full.

Imbolc " Sunshine " Soup

A bowl of sunshine soup ( recipe in Circle Round ) to remind us that the days are getting longer as the sun regains its strength.

Loving our lunchtime leftovers - Homemade spinach, olive and mozzarella pizza.

A story to get us started, some songs and poems.

Loving his shouts of joy, as he sees, carrots, tomatoes and flowers, lots of flowers.
Which to plant ?

His little hands so very carefully sprinkling the cress seeds.

Covering them to keep them warm.

And pictures of what we've done to show Daddy later.

Celebrate the coming of Spring with us.
We have some spare packets of seeds to send out.If you would like a pack, please leave a comment.

Book Sharing Monday at Imbolc

A mix of books shared with O today to match the time of year.

With frost filled mornings, more snow forecast and chilly evenings, Spring still seems so far away and yet those brave little buds pushing through the cold earth in my garden, tell me different.
First snowdrops spotted, last Thursday, promise Spring is not too far away.

The sun is gaining strength, days are slowly growing longer and the seeds are stirring.

We breathe deep, the new freshness in the air.

And so we celebrate with song, dance and ritual, encouraging Mother Earth to awaken again.

We light candles to match the spark of life, just beginning again in the ground.
Filling ourselves with this new energy.

We dream dreams of things to come, of adventures unfolding, promises of starting anew.
Allowing ourselves to truly acknowledge all that we are and all that we can be.
Everything is possible.
Blessed Be.
