Yarn Along

I have wanted to join in with this wonderful group over at http://www.gsheller.com/ sharing a WIP and a current read, for awhile now and finally am ready on the right day.

On the needles, a Yule gift for my Dad, big, thick, manly hand warmers, pattern from Last minute knitted gifts. A quick and easy knit, a tube of double rib with a gap left for the thumb, adding extra length after the opening as pattern was abit mean with length on hand.

Some current reads, my Amish interest is fed by these gentle books by Beverly Lewis, a treat from Florida.Tales of buggies, cooking, knitting and all things homely are perfect for the end of the day, afew chapters snuggled down in bed under a patchwork quilt, bliss.

Another book picked up in America and the last Little House book I had to read, always a treat although this thin, little book was full of struggle and hardship for Laura and Manly, and although I knew somewhere in those pages was the loss of a baby boy, when it came, described in 2 short lines, ofcourse it left me a weeping mess.

What are you reading ?

I'm reading my way through a pile of junky crime thrillers, and only finishing any one of them out of sheer persistance and stubborness! I'm knitting, like you, chunky handwarmers - but a commission for a friend. I'm done with presents making except for a small rabbit that I have to find the right wool for, for sweet little Connor!

Your dad's hand-warmers will be so toasty! And your books sound interesting ... I will have to look into them. This summer, my family traveled to a few places where Laura Ingalls actually lived and saw some of her homes and experienced (a little) what life was like back then ... It was a wonderful vacation =)

We have similar interests, I pick up the Beverly Lewis Amish books anytime I find one i've not read at the used bookstore. I also read through the last few books of Laura Ingalls WIlder series every year, I get as caught up in the courtship and romance of Laura and Almanzo as I do Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy!

Those look like some wonderfully warm and cozy hand warmers. Those sound like good snuggle-down books.

I've been wanting to read Beverly Lewis's books. I love learning about the Amish way of life. It is similar to how my grandmother lives in Switzerland...some Mennonites came from Swtizerland...and I know Mennonites and Amish aren't the same, but you know what I mean. Anyways, I love the manly gift! I'm always looking for masculine things for my boys.

Ah you follow her blog too, her site is uplifting and encouraging.

I've just finished a beanie hat knit in the round for me and am currently working on some matching mitts. I'm trying to read a book by Anthony Bloom entitled "Beginning To Pray", that's when I get the chance to sit down uninterrupted of course!

My girls loved Little House on the Prairie and Kelly quoted lines often to me. She even coined the phrase, "Mom you don't live in a Little House on the Prairie!" because of all the jam I made. I wish I could hear those words now from her. I'm a weeping mess too; we'd be quite the pair. Love you, xoxo

Have just finished a collection of Miss Read's Christmas tales, and wondering what to pick up next...a book that stays open so I can knit and read at the same time hopefully! Your hand warmers look lovely & cosy. Dad's deserve something special don't they? xx
