With the teenagers in our home, showing a real apathy to the Yule time spirit, matched with a little 4 year old with mounting excitement,I am drawn to this time of advent, hoping a gentle daily mix of stories, crafts, activities and occasional treats, will help lead little O into the holidays with a real sense of time and that little by little some festive magic will soften those cynical teenage hearts.
Mincemeat has been made ( and tasted, hence the huge grin )
Recipe from Family, Festivals and Food.
Not a drop of brandy was to be found in the house, so Cointreau stepped in to save the day.
And a real treat, first ever visit to the cinema, complete with ice cream ( pink of course )
Then home, to a warm fire, glow of candles, jacket potatoes for tea followed by stories.

Beautiful. Cointreau took over from brandy in this house a long time ago - spiced rum does the trick too, if you can spare it.
Hugs to you - you are creating such timeless cherished memories for all your children xxx
And just how much Cointreau has O been having Mrs R?????????????? No wonder he's excited!! LOL
oh now home made mincemeat sounds yummy! thats going on our xmas to do list!!
We also want to see Arthur Christmas!! We have heard its got great reviews!
Yum, my homemade mincemeat wasn't as tasty as yours...I used orange juice!! And the photo of your fire makes me long for a real fire. A fire makes a house a home, doesn't it?xx
That looks like a lovely book. I think I'm going to have to use something like that to overcome my own apathy, let alone teenage apathy!
Glad things are getting festive in your house.
haha all of O's tasting happened before any cointreau was added promise, lovely V, he loved the smell though xx
All looks wonderful - a lovely start to advent.
Making mincemeat here today, our first year of making it ourselves so it could taste interesting!
I wish I was there...mincemeat is my favorite! Happy Holidays, XOXO
